The ShockWave Power™ Technology has great application in the petroleum industry. Because conventional technology heats the petroleum product with high temperature surfaces from the outside-in, the “skin or outer surface layer” of the liquid is exposed to possible damage. Prolonged exposure to high temperature will cook the skin layer, causing an overall degradation of quality. This over-cooking is called “coking”. Because the ShockWave Power™ Reactor heats without combustion, and the liquid never touches high temperature surfaces, any petroleum product can be heated or distilled without “coking”. This allows petroleum products to be heated directly in storage tanks in the field, in pipelines, or on barges to facilitate pumping and unloading in cold weather. Heavy oil products can be heated for processing without scaling heating surfaces.
Scale-free heating enables steam to be produced on site from untreated water from the oil-water separation process. This eliminates the need for boiler feed water treatment.
